Electrical Inspections

FOR PECO AND OTHER POWER COMPANIES FOR REINTRODUCTION OF SERVICE
If Electrical Service to a home, apartment or commercial building has been off for 6 months or more, or if there has been a fire or other type of property damage the Electrical Utility may require an electrical service inspection by an Electrical Underwriter to issue an Underwriter’s certificate that the service meets current NEC Code requirements. First PA can provide those inspections. Our fee is $95.00 for Residential, and $125.00 and up for non-residential buildings. The fee is payable at the time of inspection by cash or money order, or by check from established businesses. We provide next day service and are available on Saturday mornings.

The Reintroduction of Service Inspection involves checking the following

  1. The Service entry cable and meter socket is firmly attached to the building and in good condition with no cracked or worn covering.
  2. The Distribution Breaker Panel has no unused openings, incorrect wiring or breaker sizes, and no double taps on breakers, unless permitted by the manufacturer.
  3. The Distribution Breaker Panel is connected to an 8’ ground rod at the panel ground point.
  4. The Distribution Breaker Panel is also grounded to the cold water pipe, and a bonding jumper across the water meter, if applicable.

The inspection lasts for about 15 minutes, and if approved, the certificate will be sent to PECO or other utility the same day. We suggest you call to set-up account, usually the next day after 9 a.m.

If the inspection is not approved, you will receive a list of the repairs needed to comply with the code requirements. After repairs, we will need to re-inspect and the fee is $55.00.
